What is Botox?
Botox (Botulinum Toxin type A) is a purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
In the USA it was FDA approved in 1997 and licensed by the MHRA in the UK in 2006 for the treatment of frown lines.

How long will Botox treatment last?
It can take up to 2 weeks after treatment to see the effects of treatment and can last up to 3 months or longer depending upon which site is being treated.
Can I exercise after having Botox?
For all treatments, it is advisable to wait 12 hours before exercising.
Is Botox treatment painful?
Discomfort is minimal.
Botox is not recommended if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have muscle weakness disorders eg. Myasthenia Gravis
- You have a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in Botox

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Injectable gels which can be used to restore or add volume to the face.
Why do we use facial fillers?
As we age our body’s supply of hyaluronic acid decreases which causes our skin to sag and to lose volume and tone. This is compounded by bone thinning as we age, which worsens the appearance of sagging skin.
How long can it last?
Fillers usually last 6-24 months depending upon the area and treatment chosen.
Is the treatment painful?
The filler used contains an anaesthetic, lidocaine. A topical skin numbing agent will also be used prior to treatment.
What are the common side effects of treatment?
Temporary injection site side effects:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Itching
- Pain
- Tingling/numbness
- Firmness/bumps
- Bruising
- Discolouration
More severe adverse reactions (which are rare):
- Necrosis
- Granulomas
- Excessive Swelling
